Dream Big Pray Hard: The New Journal

You’ve seen the journal, and now I want to tell you what that bold message on the front means to me.

Do you have a minute?

It takes a lot for me to believe in a phrase enough to letter it, put it on the front of a product, and bring it to you as a purchasable item in the shop. Not always, but most of the time, my products come from a personal place. And “Dream Big, Pray Hard” is no exception.

If you have a couple moments to spare, walk with me.

DREAM BIG

Did you know that God’s a Dreamer?

You and I are living proof.

Way back in the beginning of us, the Spirit hovered, God spoke, and in that lineup of light and sea and everything else coming into being, God dreamt up us.

His greatest creation: you.

He made them, then He blessed them.

You are proof that God’s a Dreamer.

But I can bet God’s dreams for you didn’t stop once you gained that fleshy suit.

You know, before my kids were born, I dreamt about who they might be; all I wanted them to be. And those dreams didn’t stop once they were born. In fact, now that they’re here and I’ve been able to experience their personalities and the things they’re drawn to and even the things that sometimes hang them up, my dreams for who I believe they could be have increased tenfold. If I have dreams for my kids as an imperfect mom, how much more do you think our love-filled Father dreams for us?

I’ll bet that God’s a pretty Big Dreamer, too.

And here we are, made in His image. Created to be a reflection. A royal child, who even on our worst days, are still His. We were made to dream big and constantly, just like our Papa. And we are never, ever too old to have a new dream or start dreaming again. As long as there is breath in our lungs, there’s heavenly purpose for our lives. But some of us, I’d guess, need to allow God to resurrect some long-forgotten desires and passions and start dreaming again.

Good thing is, it’s never too late.

"When You open Your generous hand, it's full of blessings, satisfying the longings of every living thing. Everyone of Your godly lovers receives even more than what they ask for. For You hear what their hearts really long for and You bring them Your saving strength!" Psalm 145: 16, 19

"When hope's dream seems to drag on and on, the delay can be depressing. But when at last your dream comes true, life's sweetness will satisfy your soul." Proverbs 13:12

PRAY HARD

Besides dreaming big, God’s been stirring in me a deep-rooted desire to ask big. For the past several months I’ve felt a strong pull toward prayer like I never have before. My desire for prayer is increasing and my beliefs about it, shifting. I have even experienced its effect in new ways.

I’m learning the difference between praying through something and not just praying for it.

I’ve discovered (already) the power of praying God’s promises and Scripture over my kids instead of just praying for the problem to go away.

There’s been a shift for me from seeing prayer as begging a far-off God, to instead calling forth what the One-who-lives-inside-me has already spoken; to agreeing with Him; to asking in confidence and actually believing for it.

I just finished a small, powerful book called Praying Circles around Your Children by Mark Batterson. I will never be the same as a parent in regards to praying for my kids. I guess you can’t be after ingesting thoughts like, “Prayer turns ordinary parents into prophets who shape the destinies of their children, grandchildren, and every generation that follows.” I don’t know about you, but that makes me want to be on my knees every morning praying and believing that the big dreams God has for my kids will. come. to. pass.

I’ll tell you what, I believe now more than ever that my prayers – my partnering with God – can literally change the course of lives and history. But I have to be willing to let it interrupt my sleep cycle and my day. God is looking for one who will believe for the impossible. I want to be that somebody. Hand raised, heart open, expectant.

“God honors bold prayers because bold prayers honor God.” –Mark Batterson

If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who ‘worry their prayers’ are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.” James 1:5-8

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in My name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it!” John 14:12-14

“Rise during the night and cry out. Pour out your hearts like water to the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him in prayer, pleading for your children…” Lamentations 2:19

THE JOURNAL

And there you have it. What the phrase that adorns our new journal means to me.

Hey, I'm totally in process. I don't know it all. Not even close. In fact, the more I learn about God, the more I realize I don't know much. A lot of what I've written in this blog post is who I want to be, not fully where I’m walking yet. But I do know one thing, He’s drawing me. And the dreaming and the praying, it’s personal now. And I hope it becomes just that, and more, for you, too.

You can check out all the details about the new Dream Big Pray Hard Journal by clicking here. If you didn’t hear, through 1/20/18, I’m including a free pen of your choice from the shop when you purchase one. I’m genuinely moved at the possibility of it being a part of your quiet times with Jesus or even tucked up in that giant purse of yours, carried around with you as a part of your daily life.

Grateful,
Melissa
