A word for my Church fam about the halftime show.

I’m not sure what your Facebook feed has looked like the last couple days but mine is full of a whole lot of opinions on the Super Bowl halftime show.

Church, I got a word for you! Where my people at?

Some of you reading this are Christian and you didn’t like the halftime show. Others of you, also Christian, thought it was awesome. Aren’t you glad we can disagree and still be the Church?

In light of that, I’ve got a word that’s gonna unlock some real freedom for a couple people today: you don’t have to comment. You can scroll right by that thing you don’t agree with and just let it lie. And if you feel the need to say something, do it in love, not to vindicate. Don’t let your need to be right overshadow unity.

Wisdom knows when to speak and when not to.

And let’s not do the assume-thing. Don’t deem a person judgmental or trapped in religion because they’re speaking up for change. Same as we‘re not gonna conclude that the person who doesn’t get what all the fuss is about must be out of line with God’s heartbeat.

For the few of you who are gonna hear what I’m not saying, let me make it crystal clear. I am not advocating for complacency or passivity or that we don’t use our voice. Those things, in fact, are the very opposite of a Daughter or Son who knows their identity.

What I am talking about is how we interact with each other.

If a convo or comment is rooted in point-proving or hate, why engage? Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Instead, value honor.
Choose peace.
Extend grace.
Go after unity.
Be uber kind.
Take responsibility for your words ‘cause they form worlds.
Speak life over each other — over everyone. From the person you lie next to in bed to the Hollywood celebrity you’ve never met.
Be wildly patient.
Tread in humility.
And above all, love.

Hey, Church. The world needs you to.
